On August 19, the 4th WAVE running concluded with 188 participants.

According to the runners, the audience and the volunteers the event has been elevated on every level and was a success. The big change that upgraded this year's event was the shift in the starting hours from morning to noon!



At 18:00, 40 athletes ran on the unique and challenging 28 km race. 45 minutes later 76 athletes started running on the 10km race and at 19:45 the 72 remaining athletes of the 5km race started their own race.
The sight was beautiful as runners from the two latter races met and painted the beach in orange and green from their WAVE running shirts!
After a few people crossed the finish line, the anticipation grew stronger as we were waiting for the winner of the 28km. At 20:09 we could see Konstantinos Siamitras of INOV-8 along with Alexandros Fotiadis of OLYMPUS TRT in the distance. They both finished with a time of 2:09:05 making the audience go wild! Dimitris Foukas from AOX finished 2nd. The experienced runner from Chrysoupoli completed his run in 2:17:29. Yannis Kourkourikis followed Foukas finishing 3rd with a time of 2:21:23 followed closely by Anastasios Kalpakis. The 5th place belonged to Nikolaos Laftsidis from ONESTEPBEYOND_ENDURANCETEAM with a time of 2:29:30.



On the female race Emine Sarisoy-Dimitriadis from LIKOUS KEHAGIOGLOU climbed to the top with a time of 2:55:02. The runners Maria Lampoudi and Matina Prasaki with a time of 3:02:05 and 3:03:29 respectively earned the 2nd and 3rd place on the pedestal.



On the 10km race the winner was Oskan Housein from APS TELMISSOS MARATHONOS with a time of 0:39:47 who finished 2nd in the 2nd WAVE running with a time of 0:49:52. The second spot was filled by Pantelis Tsevdaris with a time of 0:39:48 while Panagiotis Nikolopoulos from SDYP finished 3rd. Milena Velkova climbed at the top spot of the female 10km race in 0:43:38. Viktoria  Georgopoulou from Olympus TRT with a time of 0:48:19 finished second and Irini Gioti followed in the 3rd place a minute later with a time of 0:49:11.



Konstantinos Vafiadis was the winner of the male 5km race with a time of 0:19:15, while Christos Tselios finished second in 0:19:42 and Filips Chukarov Junior finished 3rd in 0:20:22. Fani Avramoglou won the female 5km race with a time of 0:20:57 while Ioanna Sgioga from KOURKOURIKIS TRAINING GROUP who won the 5km race back in 2015 with a time of 0:28:48 finished second with a time of 0:24:03. Ioanna Mpogiatzoglou finished 3rd with a time of 0:26:17.


There were plenty of winners in different categories as the competition added 4 age-categories this year on every race and a barefoot category on the 28km race.



At 20:00 more than 30 soon-to-be WAVE runners started the children's race and earned the greatest applause!

The audience and the athletes enjoyed treats by Grigoris Mikrogevmata, kariokes by Papaparaskevas, chocolates mixed with super foods from "To Kati Allo" and fresh watermellon and beer from the Solar Microbrewery in Xanthi!
WAVE running takes place in a naturally beautiful spot with a great environmental value. The aims of the race are to draw attention to the protection of the environment and Nestos' Delta while also promoting sports in a natural environment.
This year WAVE running was hosted in cooperation with UNESCO CON-E-ECT and EOT as a successful ecotourism activity! The Municipality of Avdira along with the Greek Rescue Team,
the Nestos Delta-Vistonida-Ismarida Operator and the Coast Guard of Keramoti for their support.
Vibram by Gruppo Pagouna, the Solar Microbrewery in Xanthi and ROUTE maps were the main sponsors that supported the event while our communication sponsors were ERT, ADVENDURE and many local media.
The 4th WAVE running was a success sending the message "Running for clean beaches!" Participants, organizers and volunteers will meet again on July 28, 2018.
